Information - Mauritius

Mauritius is home to just under 2 million people this island is best known for beaches, lagoons and reefs. The mountains in the centre are home of rainforests and waterfalls. 
Surrounded by coral reefs this volcanic island is situated in the Indian Ocean and is very popular with tourists.  Swimming, hiking and boat trips to islands are some of the highlights of a stay in Mauritius.

Buses are relatively easy to get around with and go to most places you are likely to visit.
Hiring a car is our pick for the best choice for this island, if you plan to get around and explore.  It is not hard to drive around although the streets are narrow and parking can be an issue.

Weather is Marine sub tropical. Mid 20C on coast to mid 10C in hills.
Rainfall varies from 900mm on coast to 5600 on plateau.


Packing
: Lightweight quick dry clothing is recommended. Rain gear is optional but advised. Good shoes suitable for hiking and beach wear are essential. Natural materials are recommended as the climate can be humid.
