RETURN VISIT AFTER 33 YEARS

For me this is a return visit, having visited in 1983.  For the others a new experience, and a way to break the long journey to Africa.

The first hiccup of the holiday,  we are all trying to check in at Virgin and they have a problem with Steve’s booking – mainly because he was booked on Qantas!!!  All due to flight changes we made because of grandchildren.  His flight left and landed 10 mins earlier than ours.  What none of us realised was that in Perth the airlines were in different terminals.  Steve had left his phone home and we could not find him in Perth for over 1.5 hours, very annoying but of course we waited at the start of the International Terminal (3 x female logic) and he went down to Virgin domestic and then wandered all over looking for us (male logic).

Our car was waiting at Mauritius airport and we headed of to Grand Baie.  Staying at a lovely old guest house with views over the bay.  The roads are so narrow here, quite scary. When the driver dropped us of he had to fold in the wing mirrors to go down the lane (scary).

Spent a day driving around, walking on the beach and just generally doing not a lot.  Great little shop up the road that sells chicken roti’s for less than a dollar.

Great trip out to the islands and reef today.  The water was rough but exhilarating ride and very beautiful.  The island was nice but we did not go snorkelling as there was not a lot left to see – very different from when I went there is 1983.  Some beautiful birds on the island though so that kept us busy – especially trying to capture the Tropic bird in flight.
