Reunion has a population of just under 900,000 and sits in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Mauritius. It is part of the Mascerene Islands. Colonised by the French in the 17th Century. Today it has a very multi cultural population with the dominant religion being Catholic.
Currency: Euro
Language: French officially but the majority speak Reunion Creole.
Visa: Many nationalities will be allowed 90 day visa on arrival but check for your particular circumstances.
Power: 220 volts AC. Plug type E
Safety: Reunion is a very safe country with little crime and tourists rarely encounter any problems. However safety when hiking, swimming etc, check with locals about conditions.
There is a bus service called Car Jaune but the best way to get around is by hire car.

Weather is tropical all year round with high humidity and 2 distinct seasons. Hot and rainy from December to April with cooler and drier conditions from May to November. Due to the topography of the island there are distinct microclimates around the island, coastal areas are generally warmer and wetter than the highlands.
Packing:
A layered system works best if travelling to high areas, otherwise tropical weather holiday clothes with a light jacket will be fine. It can be windy so a windproof jacket is advisable.
