Safety: Madagascar is generally safe if you take care.  Petty crime and violent crime can both occur in crowded places.  Natural disasters are more likely so be aware of current situations.

TRANSPORT:

Flights are the best way to get around as roads are rough and slow.  It is possible but not advisable to hire a 4×4 to get around but more sensible to also hire a driver who knows the terrain.

Madagascar has a tropical climate with 2 distinct seasons.  The East Coast is hot and wet while the central highlands have a more temperate climate and the Southwest and extreme South have an arid climate. Rainfall and temperatures vary significantly across the island.
